Manitowoc S Series Ice Machine Safety Timers January 15 2015, 4 Comments

S Series Safety LimitsManitowoc S Series ice machines are considered the best commercial ice machines produced.  They had just the right mix of new technology and old technology that made a reliable, long lasting piece of equipment.  The longevity of the S Series, like model SY0454A, SD0302A, SY0304A, and SY0604A, is due to the control boards ability to protect expensive components with safety timers.

Safety timers are used to shut off the ice machine, in case an ice making cycle is out of spec.  This provides protection to a compressor, that may be short cycling, or loss of water through inlet valves.  Below are the 3 main safety timers, which are indicated by flashing safety limit lights on the control board.

Manitowoc S Series Ice Machine Parts October 13 2014, 0 Comments

Manitowoc S Series ice machines are the previous generation models by the leading manufacturer of commercial ice makers.  The S Series boasted ease of maintenance, smooth design, and a focus on efficiency.  These improvements over the previous Q series, allowed Manitowoc to dominate the market.  Features made the S series ice maker one of the easiest machines for an owner to work on themselves.

Because of it’s design, most common components can be removed and changed with nothing more than a screw driver.  By removing two screws on the front of the machine, parts like the water curtain, water pump, ice thickness control, water level probe, and distribution tube can all be changed without any other tools.  The parts are easily accessible and can be changed by ice machine owners with little experience.

Manitowoc Bin Switches April 17 2014, 3 Comments

Manitowoc bin switches are the part of the ice machine that tell the control board when a batch of ice has dropped or when the ice bin is full.  They are mounted to the underside of the evaporator, where the magnet of the water curtain or damper door make contact.

There are 2 main bin switches for Manitowoc ice machines.  Part number 2301483 bin switch has a gray wire, with a white box at the end.  This ice machine part is used on most Q Series and older Manitowoc ice makers.  Then there is ice maker part number 000007888, which is white, shaped like a pencil and used on S Series and newer ice machines.

Manitowoc Water Level Probes April 03 2014, 0 Comments

Manitowoc water level probes tell the ice machine when to fill the water trough.  These parts work in conjunction with the control board and water inlet valve, to replace the antiquated float valves.  They allow the ice machine to be more energy efficient, but using less water each freeze cycle.  This article will discuss Manitowoc water level probes for the most common ice machines, the Q and S Series.
