Get Free Manitowoc Service Hand Books January 15 2014, 43 Comments
Service technicians at every level rely on special tools to assist with repairing food service equipment. Ice machines can be especially troublesome, considering the mechanics behind freezing and then harvesting a batch of ice. There are service handbooks available for purchase, but you can also download this same manual, for free!
Manitowoc Ice makes the service tech manuals, for every model ice machine, available on their website. You can download the specific model machine you are working on. For example, there are different service books on the under counter models, Manitowoc Q, S, B, and J series ice machines. They even provide a free Indigo model service tech handbook.
Warning, these handbooks are long, so the download may take some time.
To get started:
- Visit ManitowocIce.com
- Scroll to bottom center of website, under Literature 'Downloads'
- Select the drop down for 'Select Document Type', select Service Manual.
- Then select the model of ice machine you are working on in the 2nd drop down menu.
- Under select document drop down menu, select which language you want to download the manual in.
- Lastly, a DOWNLOAD or VIEW button should appear. Select 'download' to save to your hard drive and view offline.
Adobe Reader or comparable application is required to view these documents. However, once downloaded, you can search and have access to all kinds of service information, specific to your Manitowoc ice machine. For example, service tech handbooks include wiring diagrams, diagnostic tips, refrigeration pressures, and ice machine specifications.
If you need help, we provide service support as well, please email sales@icemakerpartsshop.com

Dear Sirs,
we have a Manitowoc ice machine and we have had it for a while and it works great, but just this morning we notice that that fan was making a funny noise. It would run up and then run down then run up and then down, so it seemed like the fan was not running at the same speed. we were wanting to see if we could get a service Manuel to see if we could trouble shot the problem. we are a electrical contractor so hopefully we can find out what is going on.
Thank you

I have a Manitowoc model ud014a. the problem I’m having is the ice machine will not drop the ice. it gets a real this sheet of ice but will not drop. if I unplug it the wait 5 seconds and plug back in it drops. I have cleaned the entire machine with the Manitowoc cleaner. it seems that a little water leaks across the top of the ice sheet when its forming. could this be a valve leaking? if so what should I look for?

Ice machine keeps freezing large chunks of ice. Like ice doesn’t fall off when it’s ready, it just stays and water runs over making a huge block of ice.

I have a Manitowoc SM50 under counter ice machine. It keeps burning up transformers. I thing the wrong one is in it as it is a 110v unit but the transformer is a 240v. I’ve checked the voltage coming to the transformer and its around 125v. my question is, I am going to get a universal transformer to use, but is the machine requiring 12v or 24v coming from the transformer?
Thanks

Kenny on June 23 2015 at 01:14PM
Lynn,I removed pump screen,& it made 3 batches, then a long havest again? It’s moving water enough to not form the slush ice in reservoir, but is forming in dist tube,& some on top of evap grid.2nd & 3rd batch did this but cleared fast enough to go on and produce & harvest.4th batch did not,& went into long harvest shut down. Not sure what to do?Also tried adjusting pump up away from reservoir floor to see if would help move water better, with no change.
Lynn - Ice Maker Parts Shop Admin on June 23 2015 at 06:29AM
@Kenny, this is typical of the Q undercounter ice machine. You can solve a slushing problem, most times, by removing the screen on the bottom of the water pump. Give that a try and let me know.

Hi,found and retreved service guide for correct model machine.thank you for the help with that. However I’ve been unable to diagnose problem correctly. It is an Q210 under counter unit that is in our church. It is starting and making 1st batch correctly,& in timely fashion. Its on following batches that problem is occurring. On second batch it starts rfg unit, them water pump starts correctly.Shortly after the water stops pumping over evaporater. Its is frezzeing water reservoir to slush, and starving pump.I can manually lower float,& after only a few ounces of water thaws enough,& starts pumping fine. Then it will finish that batch just like it should. On next batch same thing.I’m not sure what would be causing water temp to become to cold?Wondered if water pump is becoming to inefficient to maintain correct volume?Steram looks to be fine exiting discharge tube.Cleaned all the tubes also.Any help for aa old green horn would be greatly appreciated,Thanks Kenny

@Justin, you can purchase a new manual from there for your machine:
http://icemakerpartsshop.com/collections/manitowoc-service-literature/products/manitowoc-s-series-service-tech-handbook
Also, safety limit 2 is a long harvest. Probably what’s happening is it’s going into a premature harvest, since there is no ice to actually harvest it’s eventually shutting down. Time your freeze cycle, let me know how long it runs before initiating a harvest. This will probably solve your problem, most likely a dirty or malfunctioning ice thickness probe.
Justin on April 29 2015 at 03:04PM
I’m having trouble finding the problem on my ice machine. I do not have the manual anymore since the last guy lost it. Everything seems to be working fine, except the water wont freeze. Its very cold however. I’ve only noticed a light blink twice on the SL-2. I cant find out what that means. I’ve looked on some online manuals but nothing.
All I’ve found on this machine was Model- S322 / S422. (rev01).

@Brian, those TXV’s are very sensitive to heat, are you positive that you wrapped it enough an did not apply to much heat when changing? I only ask because I’ve had experienced technicians accidentally burn them up.
brian kelly on April 02 2015 at 09:32AM
I have a Manitowoc ice maker model no. syo455w. My first problem was the txv valve was slammed shut warm water would not open the valve. This caused the compressor to pump down. I replaced the txv and started the ice maker. The sequence of operation was correct then the compressor started the high side went to 225 psi and the low side went to 65 psi and the compressor shut off. Im trying to figure out what is causing the compressor to shut down. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Lynn - Ice Maker Parts Shop Admin on March 13 2015 at 12:57PM
@Jones, the majority of ice machine problems are caused by being dirty. The ice will not harvest properly off of the evaporator, so a thorough cleaning is always recommended, even before beginning diagnostics.
Make sure you use nickel safe cleaner and a soft nylon brush. Do NOT scratch the nickel plating or use anything abrasive.

Hi there, we have a Qy0134A that is having issues. It had been slowing down in ice production, but now seems to be shutting itself off as well. I don’t think it’s been cleaned in a while, could that be the issue?
Lynn - Ice Maker Parts Shop Admin on January 14 2015 at 07:56AM
@Brian, it should be on a tag on the back of the ice machine. Sometimes, the model and serial can also be found inside where the control board is located.
Brian on January 13 2015 at 06:50PM
My Manitowoc ice machine is older and just says Series 320 on the front. There is a sticker on front that looks like it may be a serial number but it is scratched off. Is the another serial number somewhere or his can I find out what model 320 it is?
Lynn - Ice Maker Parts Shop Admin on December 09 2014 at 10:09AM
Yordan, yes it's possible. Perhaps the water pump has just become weak over time or something in the impellar is broken. Let me know if you need help identifying which pump you need at salesicemakerpartsshop.com
Yordan on December 06 2014 at 07:31PM
I’ve done this , I checked all the tubes , cleaned the screen , still splash water everywhere … I guess the only solution is that the pump is due for replacement :/
Lynn - Ice Maker Parts Shop Admin on December 01 2014 at 09:25AM
@Yordan, you might want to check the pump when it’s not pumping water, to see if it’s too hot. This is typical and may require replacement. Also, disassemble the screen on the bottom of the pump, make sure its clean of all calcium. A good cleaning in your distribution tube and vinyl tube connecting to the pump may be required as well.
Yordan on November 30 2014 at 04:38PM
Hi Lynn , thank you.
It’s Manitowoc qd1302a
I left it twice not working for a few days until I needed ice and when I turned it on , the first time it was like working but not making ice for a whole day , until it started making the ice on the next day . I think was the pump , the machine was working but that pump was not , it was not pumping the water through I believe so it wasnt forming ice cubes . The second time I shut it off and kept it not working for few days the same little pump was the problem , it started pumping water through this time from the moment I turned it on but it was splashing water all over around . I needed to disassemble some parts and check if it was stuck something , becuz that what I thought was the problem.
Lynn - Ice Maker Parts Shop Admin on November 26 2014 at 08:03AM
@Yordan, there shouldn’t be any problem with shutting your machine off for a few days at a time. However, it’s normally recommended to just leave it on and running, as once it fills up, it shuts off on it’s own. You would probably not be saving enough energy, for just a few days, as opposed to just leaving it on and running.
What problems are you experiencing once you start it back up? Model number would help as well.
Yordan on November 25 2014 at 07:12PM
Is it okay to turn my ice machine off for couple days and then turn it on for other couple days ?
I mean I don’t use that much ice and the ice in the machine is always up to the top , so my consern here is that may cause some damage, and then every time when I turn it on after it’s been off couple days before that , there’s always some trouble with the machine …
Any advice if I should turn it on and off for few days ?
